Properly complexed GHK-Cu is visibly blue — lyophilized material ranges from pale blue-gray to violet-blue powder, and solutions are distinctly blue at research concentrations. That color comes from the copper coordination itself, which makes appearance an unusually informative spec on this compound’s certificate of analysis: material described as plain white powder is likely uncomplexed GHK or something else entirely.
Stability and handling
- Lyophilized: stable stored cool, dry, and protected from light; long-term storage at −20°C is standard.
- Reconstituted: the copper complex is sensitive to strongly acidic conditions (which can strip the copper) and to certain buffer components. Reconstitute gently in bacteriostatic water for laboratory use and avoid vigorous agitation.
- Compatibility: avoid co-formulating with strong chelators (EDTA) or reducing agents in protocols where the intact Cu²⁺ complex is the study subject.
